Cheat Canyon Bouldering
Vol I Coopers Rock
Cheat Canyon in West Virginia is a bouldering destination and is one of the largest bouldering areas in the US.
Coopers Rock offers an excellent collection of sandstone boulders scattered throughout its scenic location in West Virginia, particularly in the Upper Rock City area. The climbing here features characteristic Appalachian sandstone with a mix of slopers, crimps, and occasional juggy holds. Most problems range from V0 to V8, with a particularly strong selection in the V2-V5 range. As well as blindingly difficult projects and problems in then upper, upper range of the scale.
The area is known for its diverse climbing styles – from technical slab problems to powerful overhangs. Some of the most popular sectors include Rock City and Roadside, which offer concentrated collections of problems with relatively easy approaches. The Sand Rocks area is also notable for its quality problems, and because it requires a bit more hiking it’s a lesser-known and uncrowded gem.
This long awaited guidebook has every problem and variation at the areas within the canyon and Coopers Rock.
